A Sugar Bush

Over the weekend was maple syrup days at the nature center. We went and learned a lot of cool stuff.
This is what the Native Americans made their syrup in. They would pour in the sap, then heat up the rocks in the fire. Using the antlers, they would move the rocks to the sap. Over and over and over until it was evaporated off. That would take forever!!

These are maple sugar molds, to make maple candies. Yum!

Here's a tree that was tapped for the sap. They only tap trees that are over 14" in diameter, so they have extra sap in them.

And here is sap being boiled down in syrup. It smelled so yummy - sweet and smoky.

E and G - So cute!

The day before St. Patty's Day, we went to Gramma and Grampa Miller's house in Troy to visit Uncle Chet who was visiting from Lexington. Aunt Abigail and Baby G met us for dinner. Babies E and G sat up like big girls on a bench, so we had to take their picture. E kept trying to take G's pacifier - G did not like that!

And apparently, E was a little bored :-)
